Grand celebration for the book on October 30, 2026
After five years of research and hard work, Wilgart is releasing a truly remarkable book. Look forward to 335 pages filled with love, knowledge, and admiration for headwear in all its forms. Cap styles are described in depth, along with accounts from a wide variety of figures in the hat industry and anecdotes from the innermost recesses of the hatmaker’s and capmaker’s minds. A masterpiece of storytelling—both culturally historical and contemporary—about headwear and craftsmanship from the perspective of Denmark’s only cap maker. We hope to welcome you on the release date, when the hat shop will also be open all evening. You can pre-order the book right now here in the online store.
The reception desk will be open on Friday, October 30, from 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The reception will be held at 21 Jægersborggade.
At 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., we’ll gather for a brief talk about how the book came to be.

Details of the book
“Kasketmager”—as the book is titled—is about craftsmanship, hat culture, and headwear. It features historical accounts and images on the subject, as well as contemporary figures in an almost forgotten industry. The content is a combination of original texts and photos mixed with archival images, along with collaborations with external photographers, artists, and journalists. It includes poems and stories, but above all, photographs.
The book is 335 pages long, in a relatively large format (28 x 24½ cm), and features countless original photos and magnificent, fascinating details about headwear. It will be published on October 30, 2026, in collaboration with the publisher Frydenlund and costs 399 DKK as a standard half-bound edition, or 799 DKK as a full-bound edition in wool and silk fabric.
Denmark is good craftsmanship
Crafts always have good stories to tell and champion important values. Values that seep out of society, even though we all wish they were not. Values like thoroughness, knowledge, responsibility and taking the time to make a good product. By telling the story of the craft and the people who live by these values, we have a real chance of them remaining part of our collective self-perception.
As a cap maker, my mantra isn’t to sell more caps per capita; my personal goal is more about getting more and better caps out into the country.
More caps that are well-liked by the public, so to speak. To truly appreciate a cap or hat, you need to know a little about social norms, historical context, and practical use. This is one of many themes well-explored in our new book on headwear.
Event of the Year
It’s not every day, every year, or even every decade that a substantial book about caps and hats is published. —And certainly not in Danish!
Come celebrate the occasion with us—we’ll be in good company, and you won’t want to miss this 335-page explosion of knowledge about hats, culture, and craftsmanship.
