Learn how to wash and maintain caps made of cashmere wool fabric.
Cashmere material properties
Cashmere is a relatively exclusive fiber that is commonly used in winter clothing. It comes from the underlayer of the wool of the cashmere goat. We use cashmere in baseball caps and sixpence caps to provide extra warmth, a luxurious look, and an exceptional tactile experience.
Positive
- Lightweight
- Extraordinary insulation ability
- Softness
Negative
- Weaker fibres than sheep’s wool
- Long drying time
- Pilling can occur when the cashmere fabric is rubbed against other surfaces
We recommend brushing the dust off the cashmere cap with a soft goathair brush instead of a regular clothing brush, as the regular brush can damage the fabric.
Cashmere caps are made for use in all weather, even heavy rain and snow. However, proper drying is necessary to prevent shrinkage or stretching. We recommend filling the cap gently with a tea towel and placing it on a flat surface on top of a clean and dry towel. Cashmere is prone to shrinkage when exposed to factors such as heat and moisture. Never dry the cashmere cap in a tumble dryer or near a heat source.
It is not necessary to wash cashmere caps very often. Regular washing can stress the fabric unnecessary. On the other hand, it is important to act quickly if your cashmere cap gets a stain. The longer you wait, the harder it is to clean it thoroughly. Remove the stain with a cloth or paper towel by gently dabbing to absorb as much of the liquid from the stain as possible. Never rub the cashmere cap as it will spread the stain and cause lint also called pilling.
Remember that small balls of fluff on cashmere are normal. Pilling occurs as it is a natural process caused by tangled fibers or loose fibers from rubbing. If you think the cap has too much pilling, use your fingers to carefully remove the balls. To minimize the creation of pilling, the cashmere cap should be stored away from other clothes that may rub against it.
How to wash a cashmere cap
- Absorb any stains by dabbing with a clean cloth. Do not rub.
- Prepare lukewarm water with a mild wool soap.
- Dip the entire cap into the water several times.
- Gently squeeze out the water, instead of twisting.
- Dip the cashmere cap in clean lukewarm water once.
- Gently squeeze the water out again. Do not twist.
After cleaning, fill the inside of the cap with a clean and dry tea towel. Place it on another clean and dry towel to air dry. If necessary, change the towel once or twice by replacing it with a new dry towel, as it drains the water out of the cap. Remember not to place the hat close to a heat source such as a stove, radiator, or fireplace. Leave the cashmere cap until it is completely dry before putting it back in the wardrobe.
You can advantageously let it dry on your own head during the last phase of drying. Then it will have a nice and natural shape according to your preferences.
