This classic sixpence is wider at the rear and rounder front than our modern narrow models. The shape is a little more cocky, as the shade is also smaller than most of our sixpence caps.
The flatcap is made of luxury silk, and can be worn by anyone who wants an authentic look and a cap that responds to classic men’s/women’s fashion. The cap’s dense pattern gives a vivid optical play up close, and a nice brown hue when viewing from a distance. Silk, is known for beeing more glassy and graceful than the matte fibers such as wool or cotton. Read about silk cap maintenance here: How to wash your cap
Traditional cap production is upheld by Wilgart and master Bullmann’s handmade Sixpence caps.
In southern Germany, specifically Bavaria, is the old town of Bamberg, and there is one of Germany’s only cap makers. He bellieves in handcraft and local production of headwear. Just like in the old days, each cap is pulled over a wooden shape and ironed the traditional way. See for yourself below in the video how a flatcap comes about in the small family business, where our own hat shop’s cap maker, Silas Skram learned the profession back in 2010 and ten years on… Wilgart is a well-stocked cap store in the trendy street Jægersborggade, Copenhagen.
